The commonly used catch basins use the principle of preventing odors with water from the sewer system, so it always leaves a residual amount of stagnant water. Over time, this design has revealed many inadequacies. These issues have been raised by residents in all urban areas, and many studies all over the world have highlighted the drawbacks of conventional catch basin systems. Stagnant water turns into sludge and combines with many decomposed organic substances causing foul odors. In the dry season, this amount of water evaporates and loses its ability to prevent odors. Independent environmental assessments have demonstrated that the amount of air pollutants are <\/span>55 times <\/span>higher than the permissible standards specified in <\/span>QCVN 06.2009\/BTNMT – National technical regulation on some hazardous substances in ambient air<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The foul odor from catch basins has a significantly negative impact on nearby households and businesses. Customers at the nearby restaurants and eateries usually have to sit far away from the catch basins to avoid the unpleasant odor. Therefore, people have used many materials such as tarpaulin and bricks to cover the catch basins to prevent foul odor. However, this practice inadvertently contributes to waterlogging issues during rainfall.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
